Lift safety is not managed in a single inspection or maintenance visit. It is the result of consistent checks, proper documentation, and timely follow-up throughout the year. An annual lift audit helps facility managers step back and review whether systems are being managed safely, responsibly, and in line with regulatory expectations not just on paper, but in practice. Here are some key checklists for you to consider.

1. Documentation & Records

☐ Maintenance logs are complete and up to date
☐ Statutory inspection reports are available and filed
☐ Records reflect recent repairs or component replacements

☐ Recurring faults are investigated and root cause addressed
☐ Maintenance reports reflect actual site conditions
☐ Outstanding issues are tracked and followed up

3. Safety Devices & Testing

☐ Emergency systems are operational I.e. Alarm bell, emergency telephone/ intercom,
emergency lighting and fan, EBOPS and ARD
☐ Test results are documented and reviewed

4. Physical Condition of Lift

☐ No visible excessive wear on key components
☐ Lift operates smoothly without abnormal noise or vibration
☐ No irregular movement during operation
☐ Housekeeping in lift and machine room is satisfactory

5. Modifications & Changes

☐ All modifications during the year are documented
☐ Technical drawings are updated where applicable
☐ Modifications were reviewed for safety and compliance
☐ No unauthorised or undocumented changes identified

6. Compliance & Governance

☐ Roles and responsibilities of service contractor are clearly defined
☐ Lift issues are escalated and resolved in a timely manner
☐ Independent inspection or audit is considered

Final Review

☐ Key risks identified and prioritised
☐ Corrective actions planned with timelines
☐ Follow-up responsibilities assigned
